Engaged Reading: A Pathway to Transformative Mathematics Learning

چکیده
Conventional mathematics teaching-learning activity seems unable to foster creative, critical and reflective thinking in learners because it incorporates transmissionist pedagogy. A piecemeal, linear reductionist approach prevents holistic learning that results the mindless replica of mathematical knowledge, facts, skills algorithms. It has socialized into non-questioning roles, helped create maintain passive identities, germinated feeling inferiority, lessened self-confidence power control their actions. also conceals social, cultural, historical, political, affective spiritual dimensions education its interconnection real-world problems develops literacy for 'stupidification' so remain unconscious unaware unjust practices, dynamics hegemonic ideology. Transformative learning.
The whole point of teaching and training is to have the learners leave in some way different from how they came in-more skilled, more knowledgeable, more self-aware. Transformative learning refers to dramatic change, where the learner achieves a shift in perspective. This shift results from a critical examination of one's own assumptions, values, and beliefs, and of the foundations and expectat...

The theory of transformative learning has been explored by different theorists and scholars. However, few scholars have made an attempt to make a comparison between transformative learning and Confucianism or between transformative learning and andragogy. The authors of this article address these comparisons to develop new and different insights to guide Web-based teaching and learning. Indeed,...

متن کاملTransformative Learning Theory: A Possibility for Teachers’ Professional Development
Based on the transformative learning theory, it was sought to develop a procedure for helping teachers develop professionally. 13 elementary school teachers in one of the boys schools in Tehran’s district one participated in a workshop consisting of ten sessions and then interviewed. The content of the sessions was drawn from the theoretical basis of the study. Further field observations led to...
متن کاملDesigning reading tasks to maximise vocabulary learning
Most vocabulary learning should occur incidentally through listening and reading. This is one of the reasons why a substantial extensive reading program is an important part of an English course. Extensive reading requires the learners to do large quantities of reading using material that is at the right level for them. Vocabulary learning occurs through th...
